A-A-52490 Belts, V: Light-Duty Or Fractional-HorsepowerThis CID covers requirements for stock power transmission, light-duty, endless V-type belts. The V-belts are for use with fractional-horsepower engines or motors that use small diameter pulleys on drives which generally require a single belt. The V-belts are intended for intermittent or infrequent use, rather than continuous operation. Typical applications are: shop equipment, blowers, and centrifugal pumps.

7.1.2 Non-Government documents. Copies of RMA IP-23 “Light Duty Single V-Belts

Specifications: Joint MPTA/RMA (2L, 3L, 4L and 5L Cross Sections)”, RMA IP-3-1 “Heat

Resistance of Power Transmission Belts”; RMA IP-3-2 “Oil and Chemical Resistance of Power

Transmission Belts”; and RMA IP-3-3 “Static Conductive V-Belts” are available from Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), 1400 K Street, N. W., Suite 900, Washington, DC 20005.

7.2 Ordering data. Acquisition documents must specify the following:

a. Title, number, and date of this CID.

b. Issue of Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DODISS) to be cited in the solicitation, and if required, the specific issue of individual documents referenced.

c. PIN and quantity required.

d. If higher and/or lower temperatures are required for temperature resistance.

e. If age control is required.

f. If matched sets are to be furnished; also the PIN and quantity of belts per set.

g. Selection of applicable level and packaging requirements.

7.3 Part identification number (PIN). The PINs to be used for V-belts acquire to this CID are based upon the RMA IP-23 belt designations and are created as follows:

XL XXXX – X = RMA IP-23 V-belt size and length designation

XL = V-belt cross-section size: 2L, 3L, 4L or 5L

XXXX = Length, given in tenths of inches (see table I)

X = Number of V-belts in a matched set (see 3.4)

7.4 Special applications. Special applications requiring single V-belts that exceed the resistance to high and low temperatures specified in 3.3.1 may be ordered, however, a deterioration in the performance requirements should be expected.

7.5 Supersession data. This CID supersedes ZZ-B-215B, dated 3 March 1980, MS39240B, MS39241B, MS39242B, and MS39243B which are dated 22 June 1981.

7.6 Cross reference data. V-belts acquired under this CID are interchangeable with V-belts conforming to the superseded documents mentioned above. Examples of the cross reference relationship between the CID PINs and the MS part numbers are as follows:
