3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Material. Unless otherwise specified herein, materials shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications/drawings. The use of recovered materials made in compliance with regulatory requirements is acceptable providing that all requirements of this CID are met (see 4.1).
3.1.1 Rubber. Rubber shall consist of either natural or synthetic rubber compounds.
3.1.2 Fabric. Fabric shall be woven of multiple plies of natural or synthetic fibers impregnated with a rubber compound.
3.1.3 Cords. Cords shall be fabricated from natural or synthetic fibers twisted into a cord. Cords shall be prestretched and impregnated with rubber compound.
3.2 Design and construction. The design and construction of stock V-belts shall consist of tension members (inserts) and a compression member (cushion) molded into an endless loop having a trapezoidal cross section.
3.2.1 Tension members. Tension members shall be fabricated from either fabric or cords.
Tension members shall be arranged m a symmetrical pattern parallel to the circumference of the belt, uniformly spaced in a direction parallel to the direction of the load, and imbedded in the belt structure.
3.2.2 Compression member. The compression member shall consist of natural or synthetic rubber compounds and may include natural or synthetic fiber cords or fabric.
