3.2.3 Splicing. Not more than two transverse splices shall be allowed in any ply of fabric m any
V-belt having a length of 65 inches or less. Belts over 65 inches shall have not more than three
transverse splices in any ply of fabric.
3.2.4 Notching or cogging. The inner circumference of the V-belt may be plain, notched, or cogged.
3.2.5 Covers. Covers, if used, shall consist of one or more plies of stretchable fabric or bias cut cord, frictioned or impregnated for adhesion.
3.2.6 Dimensions. V-belt cross sections and standard effective length dimensions shall be in accordance with RMA IP-23 (see table I).
3.2.7 Interchangeability. All V-belts of a given cross section shall be interchangeable for use with standard sheave grooves, of the same designation, conforming to RMA IP-23.
3.3 Performance.
3.3.1 Resistance to high and low temperatures. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2 and 7.4), V-belts shall show no signs of cracking, fraying, splitting, or breaking during and after exposure to high and low temperatures, as specified in RMA IP-3-1 Technical Bulletin.
3.3.2 Oil and chemical resistance. V belts shall be oil and chemical resistant in accordance with the guidelines of RMA IP-3-2 Technical Bulletin.
3.3.3 Electrical resistivity. V-belt electrical resistivity shall not be greater than six megohms when tested in accordance with RMA IP-3-3 Technical Bulletin.
3.3.4 Age control. When specified (see 7.2), V-belts shall be not more than 12 months old (four calendar quarters) at the time of acceptance by the Government (see 7.7).
3.4 Matched sets. When specified (see 7.2), belts shall be furnished in matched sets according to designation, length, and quantity specified, The difference m effective outside lengths of belts in a matched set shall not exceed 0.10 inch and each belt m a matched set shall conform to the requirements for a single belt.
3.5 Identification and marking. V-belts shall be marked on the outside circumference in a permanent and legible manner. Ink imprinting or molded markings are acceptable. Identification and marking shall include the manufacturer’s CAGE code or trademark, and the belt PIN (see 7.3). When applicable, identification and marking shall also include the requirements in 3.5.1 and 3.5.2.
