COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BELTS, V: LIGHT-DUTY OR FRACTIONAL-HORSEPOWER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item
description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This CID covers requirements for stock power transmission, light-duty, endless
V-type belts. The V-belts are for use with fractional-horsepower engines or motors that use
small diameter pulleys on drives which generally require a single belt. The V-belts are intended
for intermittent or infrequent use, rather than continuous operation. Typical applications are:
shop equipment, blowers, and centrifugal pumps (see 7.4).
2. CLASSIFICATION. Stock V-belts shall be classified in accordance with the Rubber
Manufacturers Association (RMA) V-belt designations and sizes as specified in RMA IP-23, and
listed in table I only for reference purposes.
